1) Preliminary PhaseThe first time we work with a new client, we schedule a meeting, whenever possible, in order to become acquainted with each other. We ask if they have already
translated documents to or from the languages in question and if they have any reference material available such as approved
style guides or glossaries.
All of this material is extremely useful to the
translator in order to ensure full
adherence to the predetermined style, terminological consistency, and a systematic approach to every other aspect of
translated material and material to be translated .
If reference material is not available, we advise the client to prepare an initial
glossary and the client can use to make sure that specific instructions and guidelines have been followed. Keywords Italia can assist the client in this process or we can do it for them.
2) Translation RevisionA Project Manager is assigned to each client. He or she is personally responsible for all translation assignments and for coordinating the team of
translators and editors. In order to be a member of our
team, a translator must meet the following criteria: be a
native-speaker of the target language (for example, if the translation is into German, it can only be assigned to a native-speaker of German; we would never assign a translation into German to an Italian person who speaks German perfectly); have a minimum of 5 years
experience and be an
expert in the field in question.
Once the translation is done, it is
reviewed by another
mother-tongue translator (the editor) who is responsible for making corrections and giving feedback to the translator. After the
revision, the document is checked one more time by one of our in-house professionals to make sure it does not contain other kinds of error (font, page layout, style, etc.
3) Feedback We always appreciate feedback from our clients, particularly at the beginning, as it enables us to become familiar with their needs and meet them to the best of our ability.
4) StrumentiWe work with
Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) tools " not to be confused with "machine translation" or automatic translations such as
Altavista's Babel Fish Altavista, or
Google's automatic language conversion system).
Cat tools are specially recommended for the
translation of technical documents, because one of their multiple advantages is that they allow translators to 'recycle' previously translated text and maintain a
consistency of terminology at all times. They also allow us to turnaround projects more quickly and at a lower cost.
